The Screenshotz-Method

The Screenshotz method - conceived and testet by us - is a still-image variant of virtual film studios reduced to the absolute minimum: an object (or model) is placed in front of an LED monitor displaying a backplate produced specifically for this purpose. The foreground subject is lit to match the background and photographed together with it. This creates a cohesive image quickly and easily, in which the foreground object appears realistically and seamlessly integrated into the background scene. Reflections of the background within the foreground object look very realistic. Shadows, transparency and blur effects are preserved - even steam or smoke can be captured.

Screenshotz require neither special software nor advanced editing skills. An LED monitor with an anti-reflective screen is advantageous. Depending on the size of the objects being photographed - such as products, food, or flat-lays - relatively small LED monitors suffice as background displays (for example a 27" iMac with an anti-reflective screen or a 55" Samsung "The Frame" monitor).

Many backplates in the Stilldrops gallery are formatted for 4K UHD LED monitors, with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. To use vertical backplates, it is beneficial to be able to rotate the monitor 90 degrees from a horizontal to a vertical position. The photo below shows a test setup using a 27" iMac as the background display.

Die Screenshotz-Methode

Die von uns erdachte und erprobte Screenshotz-Methode ist die auf das absolute Minimum reduzierte Standbild-Variante virtueller Filmstudios: ein Objekt (oder ein Modell) wird vor einem LED-Monitor platziert, auf dem ein speziell für diesen Zweck produziertes Backplate gezeigt wird. Das Motiv im Vordergrund wird passend zum Hintergrund ausgeleuchtet und zusammen mit diesem fotografiert. Auf diese Weise entsteht auf schnellstem und einfachstem Weg ein stimmiges Bild, in dem das Objekt im Vordergrund realistisch und homogen in das Hintergrundmotiv eingefügt erscheint. Einspiegelungen des Hintergrunds in dem Objekt im Vordergrund wirken sehr realistisch. Schatten, Transparenzen und Unschärfen bleiben erhalten - selbst Dampf oder Rauch können abgebildet werden.

Für Screenshotz benötigt man weder spezielle Software noch besondere Bearbeitungskünste. Vorteilhaft ist ein möglichst entspiegelter LED-Monitor. Je nach Größe der zu fotografierenden Objekte genügen für Produktfotos, die Food-Fotografie, Legeware etc. schon relativ kleine LED-Monitore als Hintergrunddisplay - z.B. ein 27" iMac mit entspiegeltem Bildschirm oder ein 55" Monitor "The Frame" von Samsung.

Viele Backplates in der Galerie Stilldrops sind passend für 4K UHD LED-Monitore konfektioniert und 3840 x 2160 Pixel groß. Um vertikale Backplates zu nutzen, ist es von Vorteil, den Monitor um 90° von der Horizontalen in die Vertikale schwenken zu können.
